Have you ever heard of David Baldacci? I've never read any of his books but I've heard he's pretty good. He writes a lot of murder mystery type novels.
Agatha Christie is a very famous, very dead British mystery writer. She's often considered one of the best mystery writers, and I think is the best-selling author of all time. "And Then There Were None," "Murder on the Orient Express," "The Secret of Chimneys," and "Halloween" are my favorites. I have two shelves filled with nothing but her books at home!
She is. Of course, she's British, so the narrators in her book speak formally--more than what we're used to in our "yo, what's up" world. ;)
If you want to read some now, you can go to Project Gutenberg for her book "The Mysterious Affair at Styles." Good stuff. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/863
